DR. RAGHUVEER CHAUDHARI
Dr. Raghuveer Chaudhari is a novelist, poet and critic and a prominent figure on the contemporary Gujarati literature. He was a Professor and Head of the Department of Hindi, Post-graduate School of Languages, Gujarat University. He represents a voice of a true Indian writer, a writer with a social conscience, a writer with faith in mankind and utmost love for nature. Recognised and honoured as one of the most prolific writers on the contemporary Gujarati literary scene, he has been equally appreciated by his readers and critics.
2. Born on 5 December, 1938, Dr. Raghuveer is a writer with
deep th sensitivity who believes in the co-existence of spirituality and
science, reality and emotions, thinking and sentiments. He has to his credit
over 125 books with almost all forms of literature including 44 novels, 12
collections of short stories, 8 collections of poems, apart from the
collections of plays, travelogues, biographic sketches, criticism etc.
3. Dr. Raghuveer is a Managing Trustee of 'Grambharati
Gramvidyapeeth', 'Lokbharati Gramvidyapeeth', Chairman and Trustee of 'Adya
Kavi Narsinh Mehta Sahitya Nidhi 'and a trustee of 'Gujarati Sahitya Parishad'.
4. Dr. Raghuveer has been conferred with the fellowship by
Sahitya Akademi, New Delhi in 2013 and received the 51st Bhartiya Jnanpith in
2015. He was honoured with the Sahitya Academy's national award for his novel
'Uparvas Kathatrai 'in 1977. He has won numerous prizes including awards given
by the Gujarat state (1965-1970), Darshak Foundation Award (1995), K. M. Munshi
Gold Medal, Gaurav Puraskar by Gujarat Sahitya Academy (2002), Sahitya Gaurav
Puraskar by Hindi Sahitya Academy of Gujarat State (2007), Kavi Narmad
Paritoshik by Maharashtra Rajya Gujarati Sahitya Academy (2010), Mahapandit
Rahul Sankrityayan Award by Kendriya Hindi Sansthan (2014), and Govardhanram
Sanman (2017).
